Indianapolis, Ind. – Choices announced today that Michael Goldberg has been hired to serve as its Chief Executive Officer.

Headquartered in Indianapolis, Choices is a private nonprofit organization that coordinates care for youth in the child welfare, juvenile justice, special education and mental health systems. Choices specializes in serving youth who are involved in multiple systems and are currently living in (or at risk of) out-of-home placements such as foster care or institutional care.

As CEO, Goldberg will oversee all aspects of the organization, which currently serves approximately 1,500 children a day across Indiana, Maryland, Washington, D.C. and Louisiana. He will report directly to the Choices Board of Directors, which is chaired by Anita J. Harden. Since its founding in Indianapolis in 1997, Choices has grown from one employee to approximately 220 team members.

Michael Goldberg’s career in health care spans 25 years. He comes to Choices from M Goldberg Consulting in St. Louis, where he provided strategic guidance and executive management to managed behavioral health organizations, health care trade associations, and health care companies. He also served in executive and management positions with Kansas Health Solutions, WellPoint Behavioral Health, BJC HealthCare, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Missouri and Abbott Northwestern Hospital.

“The health care and youth serving systems are rapidly evolving, and these changes present a number of opportunities for Choices,” said Anita J. Harden, chair of Choices Board of Directors. “Michael Goldberg’s extensive experience working with both public and private companies will be an essential component in helping Choices navigate the nation’s new model for health care, while continuing to build on our track record of effectively coordinating care for youth who need stability and increased access to sustainable community-based supports.”

“I’m grateful for the chance to help Choices move ahead and for the chance to lead such a fine organization,” said Michael Goldberg. “Choices is dedicated to helping some of our most vulnerable citizens find their way out of difficulty by helping them build on their successes. Choices helps keep these individuals at home in their own communities while creating a more positive life for themselves. This is a mission and an organization that I am proud to support and help grow.”
