Training Requirements
Foster parents need to complete the following training courses offered by Choices:
- Choices Orientation (~2.5 hours)
- Resource and Adoptive Parent Training (RAPT) 1: Introduction to Department of Child Services (DCS) (~2-3 hours and generally paired with Orientation in a full-day training)
- RAPT 2: Child Abuse and Neglect (~3-4 hours and can be completed online)
- RAPT 3: Attachment, Discipline, and the Effects of Caregiving on the Family (~3 hours)
- Trauma Informed Care (~4 hours and generally paired with RAPT 3 in a full-day training)
- Sexual Abuse (~3 hours)
- Tools to Manage Behaviors (~3 hours and generally paired with Sexual Abuse in a full-day training)
- CPR/First Aid (~6-7 hours to complete both certifications)
- Bloodborne Pathogens (~1 hour and can be completed online)
